APA Secretary-General Meets Speaker of Malaysia’s House of Representatives and Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan and Vice-President of the National Assembly of Kingdom of Cambodia

APA Secretary-General, His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Reza Majidi, separately met Honorable Tan Sri Amin Haji Mulia, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, Honorable Mian Reza Rabbani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, and Honorable Dr. Nguon Nhel Vice-President of the National Assembly of Kingdom of Cambodia on 6 August 2017 when they were in Tehran to attend the 12th Presidential Inauguration of Islamic Republic of Iran. In all meetings, Dr. Majidi was accompanied by his colleagues and expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to discuss the APA and other mutually interesting issues.

At the beginning of each meeting, APA Secretary-General provided a brief report on APA activities in the current year of 2017 and informed the Excellencies of the outcomes of the three Standing Committee meetings on political, economic and financial matters which were held in Islamabad, Manama, and Abu Dhabi also referring to the upcoming meetings in Bhutan (of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs), Phnom Penh (of the first Executive Council) and Ankara (of the 10th APA Plenary) later this year.

Honorable Tan Sri Amin Haji Mulia was reminded that the Malaysian Parliament, as a prominent APA member, was very active in the first five years of APA formation and hosted some APA events successfully and considering its recent economic and social progress, Malaysia was expected to be more active and play its leadership role in this parliamentary organization. Honorable Speaker of the Malaysian parliament thanked APA Secretary-General and his colleagues for arranging the meeting. He put forward some questions about the APA Secretariat’s functions and positively agreed to reactivate Malaysian Parliament in APA activities.

In his meeting with Honorable Mian Reza Rabbani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan and APA Vice President for Political Affairs, APA Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for hosting the meeting of APA Standing Committee on Political Affairs in Islamabad. Dr. Majidi also briefed him on the outcomes of the other APA standing committee meetings in Manama and Abu Dhabi. Honorable Mian Reza Rabbani applauded APA Secretariat’s hard-work and offered his viewpoints on important issues which should be discussed in the upcoming meetings of the Executive Council and the Plenary.

During the meeting with Honorable Dr. Nguon Nhel Vice-President of the National Assembly of Kingdom of Cambodia, APA Secretary-General praised the leadership of Honorable Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly of Kingdom of Cambodia, during his two year presidency of the APA. Dr. Majidi also reviewed the agenda of forthcoming APA’s first Executive Council meeting to be held from 1 to 4 October, 2017 in Phnom Penh. He pointed out the importance of Cambodian leadership in managing the meeting and recommending the proposed draft Resolutions, which will be prepared by the four APA Standing Committees, to the 10th APA Plenary.

Honorable Dr. Nguon Nhel expressed his profound thanks for the official invitation which was extended to the President of the National Assembly of Kingdom of Cambodia to attend the 12th Presidential Inauguration of the Islamic Republic of Iran and conveyed the congratulations of Honorable Heng Samrin to the Iranian Parliament and Government. He also appreciated the cooperation of APA Secretariat during the Cambodian Presidency. He reiterated the Cambodian willingness to continue cooperation and work for the strengthening of APA in future.
