APA Political Affairs Committee Concludes Its Meeting in Mashhad
The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Standing Committee (S) on Political Affairs concluded its meeting in Mashhad after two days of extensive discussions on regional cooperation, political dialogue, and parliamentary diplomacy.
Convened on December 4-5, 2025, delegations representing16 member parliaments, including Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cambodia, China, Cyprus, Lebanon, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkiye, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan attended the meeting.
The meeting was opened by Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Dr. Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf who welcomed the participants for their participation at this two-day important event in the holy city of Mashhad.
Qalibaf began his statement thanking the participant for their presence at this event, adding that” it is a source of pleasure and honor to host you today in the holy city of Mashhad, the spiritual capital of Iran and a true symbol of solidarity and peace. Your valuable presence signifies our shared determination to strengthen parliamentary cooperation in a continent that possesses a common history, culture and future.”
He then criticized the inaction of the international community in the face of the ongoing atrocities and war crimes committed by the Zionist regime of Israel in Gaza Strip and the West Bank and underscored the very core essence of diplomacy as the bedrock for mutual respect and shared interests rather than coercion.
Qalibaf also highlighted the APA’s significant role in amplifying Asia’s collective voice, calling on Asian countries to strengthen unity in pursuing peace, stability, and justice both across the continent and the world.
The APA Secretary-General, Dr. Mohammad Reza Majidi, also addressed the opening session, sharply criticizing unilateral coercive measures and acts of aggression carried out against Iran in flagrant violation of international law.
He stated that the current situation in Gaza stems from the erosion of international legal norms and continued silence of the international community in the face of the ongoing crimes in the Gaza Strip.
Majidi noted that, despite these turbulent circumstances, APA member states have remained united in opposing unilateralism and have expressed solidarity with countries affected by such coercive measures.
He concluded by renewing the Assembly’s call for an immediate cessation of hostilities across Gaza and all other occupied Palestinian territories.
Next speaker in the opening session was Dr. Rizvan Nabiyev, representative of the APA Term President from Azerbaijan, who said the Asian Parliamentary Assembly stands as a vital platform for fostering parliamentary dialogue and cooperation across the region.
He continued the APA could play a crucial role in promoting multilateral efforts, enhancing parliamentary diplomacy and upholding our shared commitment to peace and sustainable development.
Nabiyev underscored the role of APA as a vital platform for advancing Asian solidarity and cooperation across various fields.
The Governor General of the Khorasan Razavi Province also made a short address and thanked the participants for their attendance this meeting in Mashhad .
Following the opening session, the SC Committee began its deliberations on a series of draft resolutions and the amendments proposed by certain members.
The SC on Political Affairs had 9 draft resolutions to considered, including a new draft sponsored by Iran concerning the June 2025 military attacks on Iranian territory which called to condemn the apartheid regime of Israel and the US for their aggression against Iran in flagrant violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity in contravention of all the international documents, including IAEA reports and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Delegations also reviewed the ongoing APA initiatives in its attempt for the enhancement of parliamentary dimension of international cooperation and exchanged views on key political developments across Asia.
The Sub-Committee on Palestine also convened on the sidelines of the meeting, with special focus on the evolving situation in Gaza.
This meeting was chaired by the MP from Palestine and the participating delegations expressed their grave concern over the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip in their statements. They also condemned the genocidal act perpetrated by the Zionist regime of Israel in the war-ravaged enclave.
The meeting finally duly considered the draft resolution entitled “Unwavering support for Palestinian People” and adopted it by consensus.
