APA Members Called Solidarity as the key to overcome challenges in the Middle East

Lawmakers representing 19 APA Member Parliaments expressed firm conviction to further galvanize their full support for the Palestinian people in the face of the war crimes perpetrated by the Apartheid regime of Israeli in the Gaza Strip.

Convened here in Tashkent in the margin of the 150 IPU Assembly under the Chair of the Parliament Speaker of the Republic of Azerbaijan, tens of APA member parliaments voiced out their grave concern over the absence of solidarity which has led to their failure in the past two IPU Assemblies to reach a unified position for adopting a unanimous decision in the face of  Apartheid regime continued brutalities which has so far led to the death of over 40 thousand of Palestinians, mostly women and children.

Vital role of parliaments and multilateral parliamentary cooperation was also underscored as the key element for overcoming the ongoing tragic situation in the region. Formation of a Parliamentary Group consisting of several MPs from interested member parliaments to travel to the region to closely investigate the situation of the people in Gaza was among other issues raised at this meeting.

Finally, in an attempt to prepare a consolidated text in relations to the current situation in Gaza Strip, it was recommended that the Secretaries General of the APA, and that of Islamic and Arab countries to sit together and prepare an inclusive text acceptable to all  the concerned bodies on the issue of Palestine for submission to the IPU Secretariat as an emergency item for inclusion in the agenda of the Assembly.
