APA Committee Meeting on Social & Cultural Affairs Held in Moscow
The Standing Committee of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) on Social and Cultural Affairs convened in Moscow's Column Hall of the House of Unions, focusing on preserving traditional values, cultural diversity, historical memory, and strengthening multilateral cooperation across Asia.
State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin delivered a welcoming address, which was read by Boris Chernyshov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma in the capacity of the APA Vice-President and the Committee Chair.
Volodin highlighted the importance of legislative experience-sharing and constructive dialogue grounded in trust and equality, which he said fosters inter-parliamentary ties, global security, and a fair multipolar world order.
Chernyshov noted the participation of parliamentary representatives from 20 countries. "We see the formation of a multipolar world, where culture and social structures serve as foundations for security and sustainable development. Intercultural dialogue and social policy are inextricably linked to state programs and citizen welfare," he added.
APA Secretary General, Mohammad Reza Majidi was next to address the opening ceremony, who outlined the agenda, encompassing cultural diversity, heritage preservation, and sustainable development. "These issues underscore the scale of societal challenges today, requiring deeper parliamentary engagement," Majidi stated.
Later, Mikhail Shvydkoy, Russia's Special Representative for International Cultural Cooperation, emphasized Asia's pivotal role in modern politics and the growing significance of inter-parliamentary dialogue for peace. Deputy State Duma Chair Anna Kuznetsova reiterated priorities like safeguarding historical truth, countering modern threats, and building a multipolar world, referencing last year's resolution on a world order rooted in cultural-civilizational diversity as a vector for sovereign states.
Ahmed Al Salloom, the APA Vice-President representing Bahrain's Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Parliament Committee on Financial and Economic Affairs, described the assembly as a key platform for Asian parliamentary dialogue amid eroding international trust. "We bear greater responsibility for fostering understanding and reducing conflicts," he said.
Amina Gamid gizi Agazade, representing Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis in her capacity as representative of the APA President, affirmed the body's role in enhancing solidarity and mutual understanding in social and cultural spheres.
Prior to the session, delegations paid respects by laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin Wall.
