APA Budget Committee concluded its meeting in Doha
The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Standing Committee on Budget and Planning concluded its meeting in Doha following consultations on the Assembly’s financial programs.
Lawmakers representing APA member parliaments gathered in Doha at the invitation of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar, in its capacity as APA Vice-President, reviewed the draft resolution before the committee as well as the Assembly’s budget estimates for 2026.
The meeting opened with an address by the Speaker of the Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, who reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary cooperation across Asia and to providing platforms that promote dialogue and the exchange of expertise among Asian parliaments.
Opening statements were also delivered by Dr. Majidi, the APA Secretary General, Dr. Nabiyev, representative of the APA President, and Mr. Chernychov, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma. The speakers underscored the importance of the APA’s role and outlined perspectives on further enhancing parliamentary cooperation throughout the region.
During the session, delegates reviewed the draft resolution before the Committee and approved the APA budget for 2026. Discussions also focused on the importance of transparency, accountability, and good governance in financial, administrative, and planning processes to ensure the Assembly’s long-term sustainability.
In another development, participants welcomed the convening of the 16th APA Plenary Session, scheduled to be held in Manama in late January, alongside the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the APA’s establishment. It was noted that, concurrently with the 16th Plenary, the APA presidency will be transferred from the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
