APA SC on Social and Cultural Affairs successfully concluded its work in Baku
The APA Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs successfully came to an end in Baku with adoption of several resolutions on important issues in favor of the people in Asia.
This two-day event (21-22 September) was held in Baku at the invitation of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan in its capacity as APA Vice-President, with participation of 16 member parliaments.
The meeting was opened by the APA Secretary General, Dr. Majidi, who cordially welcomed the participants and extended his warmest gratitude for the well-versed organization of the meeting and generous hospitality of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
APA Secretary General continued by naming Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan as one of its most dedicated and active members of its community to Chair and host this important meeting as the APA Vice-President.
Dr. Majidi also stated that APA Secretariat was fully committed to do its utmost for the promotion and realization of the objectives of our organization and would spare no effort to make the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Chairmanship a success.
Finally, the APA Secretary General thanked the leadership of the Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis for putting forward its candidacy for the next term of APA Presidency in 2023-2024.
The opening session continued with the welcoming address of the Speaker of the Azerbaijan Legislature, Her Excellency, Mrs. Gafarova, who touched on the APA as the sole organization uniting Asia’s national parliaments under one co-operative umbrella and that the Azerbaijan Parliament was very much keen on enhancement of this cooperation.
In another part of her speech, she called the APA as a significant platform in the realm of parliamentary diplomacy guiding joint efforts to curb the existing challenges for the sake of solidifying cooperation, peace and stability around the world.
She also underlined that the APA activities aiming to cement solidarity and promote interaction in various areas across the whole Asian Continent is especially notable.
Furthermore, Her Excellency Mrs. Gafarova declared nomination of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis as APA President for the year 2023-2024
The meeting had a broad-based and inclusive agenda before it. Promotion of Cultural Diversity, Integration in Asia through Information and Communication Technology, Health Equity in Asia, Situation of the Asian Women Parliamentarians, tourism and several other important issues were among the listed items of the agenda which were considered and approved by this meeting.
In addition, the new draft proposed by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan on the Commission of Women was also deliberated and adopted.
