Parliament of Malaysia Opening Ceremony
The First Session of the Fourteenth Parliament of Malaysia was officiated by His Majesty Sultan Muhammad V.
Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and wife as well as Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohamad Ariff bin Md Yusof were also there to the King upon his arrival.
During the Opening Ceremony, the King addressed a few remarks. Among them were:
1. He reminded all members of Parliament either on the government’s or opposition’s side about their responsibilities towards people after winning the 14th General Election (GE14).
2. He also welcomed the Government's efforts to disclose the country’s actual financial state, review project expenditure and stabilize the price of fuel as well as support the abolishment of the Goods and Services Tax that would alleviate the people's burden.
3. In his speech, he said that there is a notion that having multiple races, religions and cultures living together in the country could jeopardise peace and stability. “However, I am grateful that the notion has no (basis) as the people have proven otherwise.”
